Appleseed and appointment update

Today I am 5 weeks, 1 day pregnant and baby is approximately the size of an appleseed. Baby is busy growing his neural tube, which will turn into his brain and spinal cord. He is also starting to form a heart, which will be beating by next week. Did you notice that I like to say he? My feeling right now is that my little embryo is a boy, but more than anything, it just seems wrong to call our baby an it! Joe has decided the baby's name is Copernicus Tiberius or "Cappy" for short. It works nicely since we can use it and nobody really knows what we are talking about. Anyways, since we won't know what baby is until November, we'll stick with our codename for now! Oh, and Cappy is a pretty busy embryo- he's got his own mii on wii. :)

So yesterday I had my first appointment at the ob-gyn practice. I met with the nurse educator. She gave me a bag full of vitamin samples, magazines and coupons. We went over family history and my medical history. I was disappointed that several things in my chart were written incorrectly, especially because I've been going to this practice for a couple of years and I've had my records transferred there. Now, I know that this was not a meeting with the actual doctor, but I'm already getting the feeling that this practice has a one size fits all approach to a woman's health care during pregnancy. When I said I did not want to have an optional screening for Down's syndrome, the nurse brushed me off. She said to read the brochure and I'll have to talk to the doctor first. I don't know, maybe I'm just hormonal, but I really did not get a good vibe from this meeting. I just wasn't buying what she was selling. I joined this practice after I met the nurse midwife. She was so great and I totally felt comfortable with her. Unfortunately, she is not seeing prenatal appointments any more. I've made a back up list of doctors in case my appointment with the OB on Monday, 7/27 leaves me with the same bad taste. I'm hoping that my doctor is awesome. Keep your fingers crossed!

  1. This is awesome Suz, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! Will this be updated every minute? Cappy is the most intelligent and attractive embryo that has ever been, I can just tell. I've been calling him emby, I guess its grandmothers prerogative.
    love you!

  2. Julie -- NOT old enough to have a grandmother's prerogative!! :-) Yay - Suz, welcome to the world of blogging. Your embreee-yo blog and my engaged blog can be best friends. :-) I wish we could hang out, but I can't get Cappy sick!! (PS - Cappy would be the nickname of my ex... hm...) I LOVE YOU!

Suz, I must agree with Julie that Embryo Imbriaco is in fact looking intelligent and attractive already. I love reading your blogs, even though I talk to you every day, it somehow makes me feel closer to you.
    I love you!
